The Mudgee area is known for its fine wines and an annual Wine
Festival is held in September. There are many wineries and cellar
doors to visit, most catering for large groups. Gold fossicking no
longer requires a permit, just permission from the appropriate
landowners, and is a popular tourist activity. Visit the Colonial
Inn Museum to view the extensive historical collection. Many old
buildings in Mudgee have been classified by the National Trust and
are worth seeing. Don't miss the local galleries, arts and craft
shops and markets.
